The goal of a true martial artist is to win against oneself, not against others!
• Fitness of mind, as well as body
The physical training is only part of the ultimate goal of Taekwondo. The true focus is on the harnessing of human potential - the power each of us possesses but rarely taps. If Taekwondo is to be called an art of self-defense, then its goal is best described in this manner: the best self-defense is that of a serene, self-contained person, at peace with himself/herself and the world around him/her.

WINNERS VS. LOSERS
THE WINNER IS ALWAYS PART OF THE ANSWER.
THE LOSER IS ALWAYS PART OF THE PROBLEM.
THE WINNER ALWAYS HAS A PROGRAM.
THE LOSER ALWAYS HAS AN EXCUSE.
THE WINNER SAYS “LET ME DO IT FOR YOU”
THE LOSER SAYS “THAT’S NOT MY JOB”
THE WINNER SEES AN ANSWER IN EVERY PROBLEM.
THE LOSER SEES A PROBLEM IN EVERY ANSWER.
THE WINNER SAYS “IT MAY BE DIFFICULT, BUT IT’S POSSIBLE”
THE LOSER SAYS “IT MAY BE POSSIBLE, BUT IT’S TOO DIFFICULT”
THE WINNER LISTENS....,
THE LOSER JUST WAITS UNTIL IT IS HIS TURN TO TALK.
WHEN A WINNER MAKES A MISTAKE HE SAYS “I WAS WRONG”
WHEN A LOSER MAKES A MISTAKE HE SAYS “IT WASN’T MY FAULT”
A WINNER SAYS “I’M GOOD, BUT NOT AS GOOD AS I COULD BE”
A LOSER SAYS “I’M NOT AS BAD AS A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE”
A WINNER FEELS RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE THAN HIS JOB.
A LOSER SAYS “I ONLY WORK HERE”
A WINNER NEVER DELAYS HIS “THINGS TO DO”
A LOSER SAYS, “I WILL DO IT LATER”

AS TAEKWONDO PRACTITIONERS YOU MUST DEVELOP MIND,
BODY, AND SPIRIT THROUGH TAEKWONDO TRAINING. TO THIS END, YOU NEED TO BUILD CHARACTER AND STRENGTHEN INDIVIDUAL PERSONALITY BY FOLLOWING BASIC BELIEFS SUCH AS COURTESY, INTEGRITY, PERSEVERANCE, SELF-CONTROL, AND INDOMITABLE SPIRIT. THESE ARE CALLED THE FIVE TENETS OF TAEKWONDO. THE TENETS OF TAEKWONDO ARE NOT RELIGIOUS IN NATURE. THEY ARE JUST QUALITIES A GOOD TAEKWONDO PRACTITIONER SHOULD STRIVE TO HAVE.
